I once hated Springfield. The school that I happily penned into the fourth choice.
What made me hate Springfield was because there was only a 2 points difference blocking entrance into my third choice. I submitted a transfer request but no answer after two months. I was made a laughing stock in my primary school uniform. I wasnt made to feel welcomed even from the reception of the teachers(except for one or maybe two). I fear school everyday. For two sickening months I hated the school and prayed so hard for miracle to happen. Naive thinking back then.
To think of it once again, what if I was successful in the transfer? I wouldn't have made such trustworthy, crazy, and gracious buddies in ZW, GH, Louis, Rek, Clara and blah blah blah. Maybe in Pasir Ris Sec I would have made better friends, but who cares! This gang of buddies have already sticked around for almost half a dozen year. I must be lying between my teeth if I have said everyone of them is perfect. Nevertheless, when they come together they make a perfect company.
Everyone of us make friends at different stages of our life. In Primary school, Secondary school, Poly, and in the working environment. But at which stages and when will you make friends that will stick with you through lifetime? I have got lots of best friends in Primary school but only to lose contact with most of them when we enter Secondary.
To meet these soul mates in Springfield must be a blessing in disguise although the truth is that I only hated Springfield for the first 2 months. I was looking forward to school everyday then.
(50 years down the road) I imagined: Aged bearded men with walking sticks by their sides sitting round the kopitiam table with coffee cups trembling in their hands, talking cock.

People that only think of themselves kill my day.
He is so good at this. She is so good at that. Why can't I be like them?
Envy is the word.
We always look at what others have that we don't. Never satisfied with what we are, and never too greedy to ask for more.
Was on a casual conversation with Reuben when he talked about how he envy his elder brother. I pondered on this afterthat.
I do envy others as well. Nothing wrong with getting envious of someone.
I do envy Reuben for his music talent...
Kenny for his wits...
...and many things in others which I lacked.
But too much of these will lead to self discrimination. You think you are inferior and hence living in the shadows of the superior. Everything you do/have must be like the envied or better than him.
I will call these people the clones or copycats. I am I and you is you.
Be yourself and live with esteem. Everyone has got a limit to what they can have and afford to have/do.
Nevertheless, envying can spark our determination to advance and self development.
And after plenty of time spent pondering on this. I wondered if Im superior or inferior. What do others envy me of?
